Infinity Nikki’s next season launches Monday
Infinity Nikki, the fashion-forward open world game with a heavy sprinkling of gacha mechanics, gets a new season this Monday Dec. 30. It’s called Shooting Star Season, and the announcement trailer gives fans a view of the most important part of the experience: new dresses.
The core gameplay of Infinity Nikki involves unlocking and/or purchasing new outfits for Nikki, the fashionista heroine with magical abilities that are either powered or bolstered by various outfits. But it’s not always easy to decide how and when to spend your in-game time and currency, since you never know what new outfits might emerge later on and what’s worth trying to get in the here and now. The new outfits for this season may or may not be your style, but if they are, now you know when you can get them.
The trailer introduces an in-game holiday called the Wish Festival; the characters gather in the town square to make a wish on the first shooting star of the year. A small flying machine reminiscent of a paper crane descends from the sky toward Nikki and Momo; once they climb aboard, Nikki’s outfit transforms into a white and gold dress that gives her the ability to float (this would be the event’s five-star outfit, worth the hassle if you want that floating ability and didn’t get the limited-time Blooming Dreams outfit). In the trailer’s next scene, one of the other outfits is revealed; it’s a full-length white and blue number adorned with silvery stars and pearls.
Reactions to the new season and outfit reveals in the Infinity Nikki subreddit have been varied depending on whether players find the outfits to their personal taste or not. According to this author, if you don’t already have a floating ability dress for Nikki and you want (and can afford) one, the paper crane dress is a very cute option. But if you don’t like the look of it, it’s pretty likely that there will be other dresses with a similar ability and a different look in the future (given that there already was the previous Blooming Dreams dress).
Speaking of other emerging fashion opportunities, several users on the subreddit describe saving up for “CNY,” which refers to Chinese New Year. Although Infinity Nikki’s development team has not announced an official event for that holiday, it’s expected that there would be one, and will very likely include some outfits worth saving for.
